Much like Ghana, Kenya is somewhere that would also be good for me for my work. My initial impression of Kenya is that it caters mostly for higher-end tourists, but I’m sure cheaper options can be found, especially if just living and working there.Â
I’ll admit that I nearly made the common mistake of listing this as Bali, but Bali is just one of several large Indonesian islands. Bali itself is a popular nomad destination but I must research it and the other islands further. Also a home to monkey temples!
I really enjoy Mozambique. I tested the digital nomad waters there all the way back in 2010, living almost directly under the country’s second 3G mast in Tofo near Inhambane. A return is long overdue and Strab at the end of May is a great music festival that’s always recommended.
Monkey temples! Do I really need to say more than that? Cambodia also offers great value for money along with close access to other similarly cheap SE Asian countries. Much more information to follow, but let me repeat, monkey temples!Â
Vietnam is another SE Asian country with potential and promise. I had at one point looked at it fairly seriously as a place to go and teach English after completing a TEFL course in the wake of Covid, but I’d rather keep doing what I already do while there.
Brazil of course has plenty to offer in and of itself, but it also serves as the gateway to much of the rest of South America. With a friendly visa policy and relatively cheap cost of living, it is definitely worth spending some time here before pushing on further.
Thailand is a very regular feature on lists of affordable digital nomad destinations. The country offers diversity, stunning beaches and landscapes along with affordable costs and competitive flights from South Africa. Much more information to follow soon…Â
Spanning Asia and Europe, Turkey is rich in history and a modern melting pot. Although I’ve never been, I once wrote for a Turkish news agency and also gazed at the Turkish shoreline while working on Cypriot cruise ship (they don’t get along, so we we never docked).Â
