Ghana

Ghana has the dual appeal of being somewhere that I’ve wanted to visit along with being somewhere I have a legitimate work interest in visiting. The chance to work expense some travel costs and gain a deeper insight into the country’s culture is a decent drawcard for me.

India

India is cheap and accessible, with reportedly excellent connectivity. The best times for travel are October to March, but I’m heading there from mid March to late April, starting off in Arambol in Goa and then making my way to Rishikesh in the foothills of the Himalayas.

Malawi

Known as “The Warm Heart of Africa”, Malawi offers very good value and its famed friendliness extends to SA passport holders. Lake Malawi is somewhere I’ve been wanting to go to for about 20 years. Riding the Inyala Ferry or its replacement is a Bucket Lister!

Namibia allows 90 days of visa-free travel for South Africans with a return ticket. (Not too sure how that works if arriving overland.) Namibia is easily accessible and, as I only recently realised, it offers a viable route into Zambia. More to follow…

Malaysia

I don’t know too much about Malaysia, but it caught my eye for the 90-day stay without a visa for South Africans. Living costs may be high in Kuala Lumpur, but livingcost.org says they’re much cheaper than I expected. But this is all still very much under the TBC blanket.
