Peru is not only home to Machu Picchu, one of my long-term Bucket Listers, but Cuzco has been highly recommended to me as a place with a vibrant nomad community. Getting there from SA is a bit complicated and costly, but it looks good for a long stay.
Famed for a hat and a canal, Panama has been a popular destination for South Africans seeking a second residency or passport somewhere that still feels a bit wild. Panama wasn’t one of my first thoughts, but I have good friends moving there and I’d love to visit.Â
Brazil of course has plenty to offer in and of itself, but it also serves as the gateway to much of the rest of South America. With a friendly visa policy and relatively cheap cost of living, it is definitely worth spending some time here before pushing on further.
